How To Use The Bitcoin Lightning Network - Wallet of Satoshi

Great news: you can learn to use the Bitcoin lightning network today! The release date of lightning network’s beta happened back on March 15th 2018 and since then there has been a flurry of activity. Initially to use Bitcoin’s lightning network a node setup was required (and I would argue this is still the best route), but simpler user-friendly services are popping up to bridge the gap for the less technically inclined. Does this mean the lightning network is centralized? Not from a network perspective, but using these services does mean you are trusting another entity with your funds.

There are many current iterations of using a lightning network wallet, and this is just one demo. For low value transactions this is a great way for the layman to give lightning network a test run. Since this version does not have you running your own lightning network node, you don’t stand to profit every time you route a payment, because this is carried out by the service. That said, you don’t have the headaches of initial setup associated with using LN in these early days.

I hope you find this brief tutorial helpful, and I’m sure we’ll see many other easy to use non-custodial solutions pop up during the course of the lightning network scaling. Be careful out there (please use small amounts only), and let me know if you come across any issues!
